Diamond Light Source & Protein Crystallography

Tuesday 15 October 2019 12:00 - 13:00
Sir Alexander Fleming Building
Guest Lecture | Biochemistry
Ever wondered how protein structures are solved? How do we know where the alpha helices and beta sheets are? Join us for the first of our 8 part seminar series to find out more! Dr Konstantinos Beis, based at Diamond and Imperial College, will be giving an introduction to his exciting work in protein crystallography and how it is used at the Diamond Light Source in Didcot! Dr Beis's work looks at functional characterisation of multidrug membrane transporters and you can read more about his research group here: https://www.rc-harwell.ac.uk/research-groups/beis-group/ Aimed at the undergraduate level, the talk will be accessible for all students, biochemist or not! There will be a chance to ask further questions and the chance to win some bubble tea from our sponsor, Biju! For Imperial students on the Diamond Light Source Trip on the 16th, this seminar aims to be a great introduction of Diamond before visiting!
