Belly Dancing with Swords

Tuesday 21 May 2019 18:00 - 20:00
Activity Space 1, Floor 1, Union Building
Music, Drama & Dance | Dance - Belly Dancing
Time for our second Summer Workshop: Swords About the workshop Whether you are new to dancing with sword or want to sharpen your sword skills further, this workshop is a great challenge to extend your dance repertoire. Sureya will demonstrate and break down important techniques for sword dancing including balancing, holding your prop, using your sword to improve your isolations and core moves, travelling steps as well as performing with confidence in your prop all the way through your dance. We unfortunately can not provide swords for everyone during the class (Sureya will have a few to pass round), but we will be providing canes to use in their place, in order for you to practice the techniques (it is quite common to start with canes when learning the sword as they are much lighter). We have a limited number of canes so it is advised to book online in advance to avoid disappointment on the day! We advise that you bring the following on the day: - Water - Hairband, particularly if you want to try out sword balancing on your head (or if you're bringing your own) - Socks - Notepad If you are interested in buying your own sword, Sureya recommends the following: https://www.bellydanceboutique.co.uk/product-category/belly-dance-props/belly-dance-swords-dagggers About Sureya We've invited our Advanced Plus class teacher Sureya to give this workshop, after she gave an awesome double swords solo at HipNotize back in March Sureya is a professional belly dance performer, instructor and choreographer based in London, her passion for belly dance coming from her Turkish background.
