With Rebecca Long Bailey, Zack Exley + more Excitement is building for bold action to stop the climate crisis. A radical program for transforming the UK economy could create carbon-free, liveable and sustainable futures for the people of Britain with hundreds of thousands of decent, secure jobs. We might have the imagination, but how do we build the political muscle to bring about a climate future for the many? Within both the UK Labour and US Democratic parties, the upswell in grassroots mobilisation is rapidly reshaping party politics and opening new possibilities to put forward transformative visions. One of the most exciting recent experiences of this has been Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ push for a Green New Deal inspired by radical action from the Sunrise Movement and Justice Democrats. In the spirit of collective learning and sharing experiences, this event will hold a dialogue between US organisers, the Labour Party and climate movements on how to build a political force for transformative climate action. Speakers: Rebecca Long Bailey MP - Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy Zack Exley - co-founder of Justice Democrats, the movement that recruited Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, co-author of Rules for Revolutionaries Faiza Shaheen - Labour’s candidate for MP in Chingford Cllr Sakina Sheikh - Labour Energy Forum
