Dr. Robinson has promojted intestive community treatments models for patients with eating disorders and has published guidance for the treatment of Servere and Enduring Eating Disorders (SEED). Talk Synopsis: Eating Disorders: Hospital or Community? While hospital treatment can be lifesaving, there is little evidence that prolonged admission confers advantages over community treatment. However, prolonged inpatient care is commonly provided. Dr Robinson will discuss the possible reasons for that and what might be done to change it. Admission to a medical ward: a potentially risky step. Patients with Anorexia Nervosa who become extremely ill may be admitted through Accident and Emergency into a general medical ward. The skills for managing the medical and psychological problems presented may not be adequate, and the patient may fail to improve, or even go down hill. MARSIPAN (MAnagement of Really Sick Patients with Anorexia Nervosa) was developed to address the problems faced by medical units by promoting joint working with Eating Disorder and Mental Health services. The talk should last for approximately 45 minutes with time for questions afterwards.
