We're recruiting Lay Trustees

We are currently looking for two new Lay (external) Trustees to join our Board of Trustees.

Last year we launched our 2021 – 2023 Strategic Plan, called Back to Basics. This was focused on ensuring the Union become a more effective, impactful and sustainable organisation, that delivers real benefits our members, the students at Imperial College.

We are a diverse organisation, providing a broad range of services. And we are constantly evolving, to ensure we provide you with the best possible experience during your studies. We are also one of the oldest students’ unions in the UK, steeped in history and tradition. As such it is a busy and exciting time to join us.

 

This is an amazing time to join Imperial College Union. Last year, we consulted with our members and listened to their needs. Our new Back to Basics strategy represents an exciting change for us, and shows our commitment to providing the services and support Imperial students need to have a fantastic university experience.

We are recruiting two new external trustees to fill vacant posts. External trustees add value to our Board by brining external expertise and insight into our organisation. They will provide strategic direction and work with us to ensure we develop and thrive in the future. They will:

  • Ensure that we comply with any charity law, rules and regulations governing our work
  • Contribute to Board discussions to provide clear strategic direction for the Union
  • Promote our values and safeguard the reputation of Imperial College Union
  • Collaborate with other trustees and our Managing Director to ensure effective and efficient operations of our organisation
  • Ensure the Union’s governance is of the highest standard.

We are encouraging applications from communities that are under-represented on our Board, including people of colour, those with disabilities and those with caring responsibilities.

In addition to the above, we’d like applications from individuals experienced in one of the following areas:

Organisational change: We’re partway through a complex transformation project, as such, we’d like expertise in organisational change on our Board of Trustees, to help guide us through the next phase of our journey.

People and culture: We’ve begun a review into our people and culture, which will help shape our future direction and ensure we continue to motivate and empower our people to be the best they can be. We would like to bring onto our Board a trustee who has specific experience in people and culture, to help us foster a culture of diversity, empathy and collaboration in all we do.   

Communications: ICU has relationships with various stakeholders, and we would value thought leaders who can help us highlight how we might best engage with them.
