Graduate Students' Union

The Graduate Students' Union represents all Taught and Research Postgraduates across all of Imperial College London. 

The following roles are available:

  • GSU President
  • Deputy President (Representation)
  • Deputy President (Operations)
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

GSU President

The GSU President is a part-time position. The President is responsible for leading the GSU committee and for representing the Postgraduate student body, as well as for providing the Postgraduate student voice to different levels of College. This includes attending committees with the Graduate School, Imperial College Union, College faculties and senior College committees such as Senate. The GSU president also has a seat on Union Council.

Deputy President (Representation)

The GSU Deputy President (Representation) is tasked with handling the academic and welfare issues of the Postgraduate student body. To this end, they coordinate the action of the five Academic & Welfare Officers (AWOs). They also sit on the GSU executive committee, and can represent the GSU President where appropriate

The expected workload is approximately 4-6 hours per week.

Deputy President (Operations)

The GSU Deputy President (Operations) is in charge of coordinating the GSU operations team (treasurer, secretary, events and marketing). They are therefore pivotal in working with the President in ensuring the smooth organisation and running of events. They sit on the GSU executive committee, and can represent the GSU President where appropriate.

The expected workload is approximately 4-6 hours per week.

Secretary

The secretary is responsible for the continuous and smooth operation of the GSU. They organise and coordinate every GSU general committee meeting by circulating the meeting agenda, arranging meeting invites and taking minutes at each meeting.

The expected workload is approximately 2-3 hours per week.

Treasurer

The treasurer is responsible for the GSU’s finances and its budgeting. They sit on the GSU general committee, regularly reporting the state of finances to committee members. The treasurer typically writes budgets for the GSU and based on their knowledge of the GSU’s finances is sometimes expected to attend meetings with Imperial College Union.

The expected workload is approximately 2-3 hours per week.
