Join us for an insightful talk on gender and language by Nadine Buchmann, from the CLCC. During the talk we will be exploring gendered language in the context of English, German, French and Italian. Does the average American really wear tights? If your Italian son becomes a human, what does your daughter become? And why are five French women and one French man addressed with the plural of "him"? We will look at how different languages have addressed this imbalance in linguistic representation, what real-life implications it has and discuss how the "generic masculine" does a disservice to everyone.
