Interested in Medtech, machine learning, and coding but never known where to start? This (in person!) workshop’s got you covered! MedTech, EESoc and CompBio are joining together to deliver an exclusive event, featuring a fully interactive Python Workshop and an exciting lecture by Dr Ad Spiers, EEE Department. Where: On campus!! Skempton LT207 When: 9th December, 6 - 8.30 pm Food and drinks provided! The talk will be on Towards Automatic Human Movement and Manipulation Analysis with Machine Learning Lab Website: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/manipulation-touch Abstract: Though humans show remarkable individuality across a number of factors, our movement patterns can be quite similar across individuals. However, motion patterns can be complex and difficult to intuitively interpret and compare, particularly for the upper limbs, whose motion is non-cyclic. Additionally, some aspects of human movement are not yet fully understood, or our knowledge is based only on controlled lab experiments, where observed behaviour may only have a limited relationship to how we move in daily life. One such area is the study of human hand behaviour, or the adapted motion of upper limb amputees. Gaining greater insight into these topics can assist with the development of automatic diagnostic systems, or lead to improved prosthetic devices. In this talk I will discuss my on-going work in human movement and manipulation analysis, using a variety of novel hardware systems and machine learning approaches. There are limited spaces available so if you aren't able to get a ticket email compbio@ic.ac.uk and we will add you to the waitlist!
