As we welcome you back from the Winter break, we wanted to let you know how last term went and what our plans for the next months are.

Sustainability

Our joint goal as Officer Trustees this year is sustainability.  Loads of positive progress has already been made and this will continue to be a top priority for us!

Support for our student community

The horrific events that have occurred, and continue to occur, in Israel and Palestine have shocked and distressed the Imperial community. 

We stand in full solidarity with all students who have been affected by the conflict.

We condemn the proscribed terrorist organisation Hamas and their attacks on Israeli civilians.

Last night, Union Council met to debate whether Imperial College Union should continue to support strike action being undertaken by the University and College Union (UCU). The UCU is a trade union representing academics, lecturers, trainers, researchers and academic-related staff.

Last night Union Council met to discuss the Union’s stance on the planned industrial action by the Imperial University and College Union (UCU), a trade union representing academics, and Imperial Unite, a trade union representing staff in technical, operational, and professional services. Students have a lot of different motivations for standing as Liberation and Community Officers – these are rewarding positions that offer the chance to affect real change within Imperial. We spoke to Grace Fisher about her motivations for joining the Working-Class Network and her journey towards standing as Working-Class Officer.

With the introduction of a new lockdown at the beginning of the term, we understand that the accommodation plans many of you had have changed completely. This is why we convinced the College to apply an automatic fee-waiver for Imperial-owned halls of residences for all students who can't come back to their hall - either because of current government guidance, or because of personal circumstance.

On Monday 9th November, we reached a big milestone: 100 days since the beginning of the academic year! And 100 days in our full-time sabbatical roles at the Union. With so much to do, we're constantly in running mode so we thought we'd put the brakes on just for a second to reflect on the first 100 days. Each of the five of us (your four Deputy Presidents, and your Union President) have written about each of our experiences of the first 100 days in office.
