Join us in an interactive forum about inequality, its effects on society, and the (oft-controversial) prospect of a universal basic income. We have Mr Alex Bax, chair of My Fair London and Pathway, and Ms Barb Jacobson, chair of Universal Basic Income Europe (UBIE), coming down to share with us, so do take the opportunity to ask as many relevant questions as you need! ENTRY IS FREE! The event is open to students from other universities as well, so do invite your friends if you think they might be interested! (Check the "Discussions" tab for directions) Points to be raised include: • How does inequality (in any form) impact OUR daily lives? (This isn't just about homeless people on the streets!) • What's the difference between absolute and relative poverty? • Why should we give people an income for free? • Isn't the solution just more growth? (NO!) All these, and more! Alex Bax currently serves as the chair of My Fair London, Chief Executive of Pathway, and Chief Operating Officer of the NHS Staff College, an initiative designed to bring values-based leadership development to the NHS. He is a visiting fellow at the Institute of Health and Human Development at the University of East London. He served 18 years in the London Government, including five years as a special advisor to the Mayor of London, first in planning and development and then in health policies. Barb Jacobson currently works as a welfare rights advisor and has organised around women’s, health, welfare and housing issues for over 30 years. She also works as a Co-ordinator of Basic Income UK and a trustee of the educational charity Citizens Income Trust.
