As many students choose to take up part-time work, it is often the case that they take up low-paid jobs - often at the minimum wage, or even below. There have been cases of students working below the minimum wage in the past. hHere is a brief overview of the minimum wage rates - the hourly rate you should be getting paid if you choose to take up paid employment while studying:
- £7.50 - the rate for workers aged 25 and over
- £7.05 - the 21-24 rate
- £5.60 - the 18-20 rate
Everyone over the age of 16 is entitled to the National Minimum Wage and it makes no difference how you are paid or where you work. If you feel you are not being paid what you are legally entitled to, then seek advice from the Advice Centre. A link to the governments webpage on the minimum wage-
