Training for Student Leaders

ICU offers comprehensive training for all student leaders, with tailored programmes for all positions. Training is compulsory for full-time officers, Liberation & Community Officers, and all UG and PG Academic & Wellbeing Reps. This will support student leaders to understand their position in the larger network of student representation, learn about ICU processes, meet each other, and learn how to be successful in their role.

Training for full-time officers (Officer Trustees, and ICSMSU President) will take place as part of their full-time induction and handover from Monday 21st July 2025.

The first training for Liberation & Community Officers, Faculty Reps, Constituent Union Presidents, and all UG and PG Academic & Wellbeing Departmental Reps will take place in May 2025, as part of the annual Student Leadership Training.

Elections Management

The Leadership Elections 2025 are governed by a Returning Officer who is responsible for ensuring the elections are free and fair.

The Returning Officer for Leadership Elections 2025 is Lucy Gill (Director of Membership Services) at Nottingham Students’ Union. The Returning Officer will make the final and binding decision on any rule breaches or complex queries raised by candidates and members.

The Returning Officer appoints a Deputy Returning Officer, a member of ICU staff, to operate the elections on a day-to-day basis, answer queries from candidates and voters, and make rulings on complaints and rule breaches.

The Deputy Returning Officer is Cat Turhan (Director of Membership Services) at Imperial College Union.

The Returning and Deputy Returning Officers can be contacted on elections@imperial.ac.uk.
