Welcome to Prosthetics

Give a man a Prosthetic Leg and he can walk for a day! Teach a man to Prosthetic Leg and he can have 3 legs for a lifetime!

Welcome to the Prosthetics Society. Our society invites you to join a sub-team of your choice, each with a unique challenge:

  • Arm Team is designing a partially myoelectric prosthetic hand. We are split into two teams: the mechanical team, which is focused on the overall design and manufacturing, and the electrical team, which is focused on the circuit design and development.
    • Mechanical (Wednesday 14:00, Ask Team Lead or committee)
    • Electrical (Wednesday 13:00, RSM Electrical Lab)
  • Exoskeleton Team is developing a pneumatic actuator-based exoskeletal array (Monday 18:00, Physics Lecture Theatre 3 BLKT112).
  • Leg Team is manufacturing a transfemoral prosthetic leg with semi-active joint technology for a dedicated athlete to use in the 2028 global Cybathlon competition (Wednesday 18:00, CAGB664).
  • Affordable Team (NEW) is designing an open-source, affordable prosthetic device for real-world use (Tuesday 18:00).

Throughout the year, we host an array of activities, including:

  • Workshops in CAD, electronics, and 3D printing
  • Talks from industry experts
  • Society-wide socials
