Sinfonietta is a full symphony orchestra, led by professional conductor William Carslake, now over 20 years old. We play a wide variety of enjoyable and challenging repertoire to a high standard. Last year's concerts included performances of Shostakovich's 12th symphony and Edgar Girtain's Views of Llifén , as well as a collaborative concert with IC Choir! We rehearse every Monday at 6, followed by a trip to a local drinking establishment. We have a highly deserved reputation as being a very sociable orchestra, with socials organised throughout the year, and our weekend away in first term is a great ice-breaker for new players! Our fun-loving nature does not detract from our playing, however, and we put on fantastic performances two or three times a year in the Great Hall, with some distinguished young soloists. We are also one of the most travelled musical societies, touring yearly to locations such as Valencia, Croatia, Romania, Madrid and, most recently, Prague. Plans for this year are looking exciting already! Sinfonietta is a friendly society, always on the lookout for new players, and no audition is required for strings or percussion. So if you'd like to be part of one of the most enjoyable and rewarding societies at Imperial, come and find us at Freshers' Fair!
