Kendo is a Japanese martial art that teaches traditional swordsmanship using bamboo swords and body armour. We are a beginner-friendly club so come along and try it for yourself!
This ancient martial art was passed down through centuries of civil strife between the ruling Samurai classes of medieval Japan. Kendo players wear tough body armour and use bamboo swords in lieu of the steel blades used in ancient times.
Imperial College Kendo Club is now in its 21st year (having celebrated its 20th anniversary last year) and has had a long and glorious history. The club is very friendly and as a member, you will get the training and the chance needed to compete in official British Kendo Association tournaments and attend various Japanese cultural events during the year.
Our training times and venues for this year are as follows:
Monday 20:30-22:30, Union Dining Hall (1/F of Union Building) (Beginners and Experienced
Wednesday 20:00-22:00, Union Dining Hall (1/F of Union Building) (Beginners and Experienced)
Friday 20:00-22:00, Union Gym (3/F of Union Building) (Experienced Only, Armour Session)
