Join us for a special Disability History Month meeting of Imperial College Book Club: Disability Experiences and Representation!
We’ll be reading Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes(the novel, not the short story version), a powerful and thought-provoking story that delves into intelligence, human potential, and the ways society treats disability. Through Charlie’s journey, the novel raises important questions about the ethics of medical intervention, the meaning of “normalcy,” and how people with cognitive disabilities are perceived and valued.
Come along for an open and welcoming discussion exploring how disability is portrayed in literature, how lived experiences are represented through storytelling, and what this novel can teach us about empathy, identity, and inclusion.
Everyone is welcome, whether you’ve finished the book or just want to join the conversation! Bring your ideas and enjoy a relaxed evening of community, reflection, and discussion.
