Beit, BUCS and Blogging

Deputy President (Clubs & Societies)

On the hottest day in 7 years it’s my first day as DPCS and I have found myself helping with preparations for the building work on the new level 3 meeting rooms. This is the first phase of the Beit redevelopment and should create some really great spaces with fantastic views of the Royal Albert Hall for Clubs, Societies & Projects to use, so I can’t wait to see them completed!

Handover with my predecessor Henry was an intense and informative couple of weeks. This time gave me ideas for projects I wish to get started during my year as a Sabb and how I might achieve my manifesto points. Work on the 2013 Freshers’ Fair is already underway and will be one of my main projects over the next couple of months, helping to showcase the many Clubs, Societies & Projects we offer to new and returning students.

Before handover began I squeezed all my summer fun of rugby tournaments and travelling into a few short weeks before heading to Edinburgh for the annual BUCS (British University and College Sport) conference. The theme of the conference was ‘University sport – why it matters’  and it was a great opportunity to learn more about aspects that may affect Imperial College students who compete, and how I can represent their needs to the national body. Imperial won an award for raising the most money for the BUCS official charity ‘Right to Play’ so many congratulations to all the students involved!

I’ll be keeping you updated with interesting news and all things Clubs, Societies & Projects!

Yas :)
