Pie & Ale Festival, 4 - 11 October

We’re hosting a Pie & Ale Festival in our bars during Welcome Week. Both FiveSixEight and h-bar will have a host of pies and matching ales for you to try! See below for what will be on offer 4-11 October.

Get a pie and pint of any cask ale for £7.50, or a pie and pint of soft drink for £6.00

All pies are served with mashed potato and gravy.

Ales on offer:

  • Greene King IPA (3.6%) - Characterised by its hoppy taste and aroma that comes from the use of Challenger and First Gold hops which are ombined with Pale and Crystal malts.
  • Greene King IPA Gold (4.1%) - A light, refreshing golden ale that brings out the best in the unique and aromatic Savinsjki Goldings hop which creates a perfect blend of tropical fruits, mango and spicy notes.
  • Olde Trip (4.3%) - A rich toffee flavoured beer bursting with fruity character, perfectly balanced with a clean and bitter finish.
  • Brighton Bier: The Fall Guy (4.5%) - A flavourful, hop forward red rye sale bursting with tropical fruits and citrus.
  • Morland: Old Nutty Hen (4.5%) - A chestnut coloured ale with the unique nutty character of amber malt, combined with the floral and spicy flavours of traditional English hops.
  • Greene King: Buck Greene Governor (5.0%) - a London pale ale – light, refreshing and packed with hops.

Get a pie and pint of IPA, Old Speckled Hen for £7.99, or a pie and pint of soft drink for £6.99

All pies are served with mashed potato and vegetables.

  • Goldigger chicken pie - chicken in a rich goldigger ale sauce flavoured with vegetables and a hint of ginger and lemongrass topped with a pastry crust served with mashed potatoes and carrots.
  • Beacon Piggy Pie - pork marinated in Beacon Ale slow cooked with bacon, black pudding and apple & onions topped with creamy mashed potato served with pan fried cabbage.
  • Beef and Red Herring Pie - beef braised in Red Herring ale with blackberries, star anise, onions and parsnips with a puff pastry lid served with new potatoes and green beans.
  • Turkey Poppy Pie - turkey in a light gravy flavoured with Poppy ale, leeks, carrots and Onions with a parmesan mash topping served with broccoli.
  • Beef llkley Black Pie - beef stewed with Ilkley Black ale and onions and mushrooms with a shortcrust pastry top served spinach and rosemary mashed potatoes.

Ales on offer:

  • Gold Digger (4.0%) - Golden coloured with a citrus aroma, peach and a touch of spiciness on the palate leading to a fresh, hoppy, citrus finish.
  • Red Beacons (5.0%) - red hued smooth premium ale. Full bodied with a generous balance of hops using goldings, sovereign, pioneer and first gold hops.
  • Red Herring Smoked Ale (5.0%) - A rich fruity red ale brewed with Oak and Beech smoked malt giving the beer a subtle smokey flavour with a dry smoked finish.
  • Poppy Ale (4.2%) - Pale golden ale infused with honey and fruity hops to give a delicate yet moreish flavour.
  • Ilkley Black (3.7%) - A dark and velvety mild made with chocolate and roasted malts to give a rich and satisfying flavour.
  • Hampshire Rose (4.2%) - Carefully selected blend of Maris Otter and roasted barley. Brewed using four choice hops; Target, Hercules, Nugget and Galena producing a truly hoppy finish.
