An appreciation of chairing skills is core to assisting student representatives in their roles. These skills, are all valuable for work or study, whether or not you are required to act as a chair, they include:
- understanding the chairperson’s role
- planning meetings effectively
- creating an agreed agenda
- understanding expectations, rules and roles
- managing and involving people
- collaborating to reach decisions
- reviewing, minutes and following up on actions
- Recognise the role of a chairperson
- Outline five tips to chairing successfully
- Identify how to chair a meeting to ensure representation
- Apply chairing skills to your practice
- Assess opportunities to enhance your chairing skills
