About the Role

Over the summer we welcome about 150 new international students for intensive English courses in preparation for their studies at Imperial College in October. Most of the students need to pass this English course in order to take up their place on Masters courses. Students arriving in September have already achieved the English grade for college entry and are here for fun, for orientation, and to improve their English so that they can get off to a flying start with their studies – some of these are undergraduates.


-Volunteer role:
  • • mixing and socialising with all students, especially those who seem isolated and those who cling to friends from their own country
  • -chatting in English about college life, settling in to London, coping with new context and environment
  • -conducting games and activities that promote integration, cooperation and conversation
  • -assisting the Social Events Organiser in various ways to prepare and deliver events
  • -accompanying small groups of students as part of larger trips
  • -following instructions and explaining these to students
  • -working as a team to develop activities and provide cover for each other
  • -sharing good practice with members of the Social Team to improve activities and increase participation.
