Develop young people’s empathy, tolerance and understanding through Debate
About the Role
Debate fuels the power of persuasion, and our Debate Clubs develop young people’s empathy, tolerance and understanding as well as their skills in critical thinking, analysis and communications. If you want to change the world you need to win the debate and we are looking for Debate Coaches to mentor the next generation. iDebate runs debate clubs in Further Education Colleges around London and we are looking for coaches to give an hour or two a week to help develop them. No need to have debate experience as we will provide training and support.
As a Debate Coach you can expect to take a leading role in mentoring your own group of young people studying at a local Further Education College Debate Club. Inspire young people to be more engaged while teaching them the skills they will need in the future. As well as the warm fuzzy feeling you get when doing something to help others you yourself will have an opportunity to learn; about debate, about organising and developing a club, and develop your leadership skills.
Most of our clubs run on Wednesday afternoons for an hour when colleges have enrichment, it is however different from College to College. We try to find a time that suits both the college and the volunteers. Note the clubs only run during term time
About the Organisation
The International Debate Education Association is a charity dedicated to providing marginalised young people with the opportunity to speak up and express their views through learning to debate.
We use debate education programmes to promote the social mobility and social inclusion of young people by developing advocacy and employability skills such as critical thinking, critical consumption skills, divergent thinking, analysis, public speaking, active listening, advocacy, and teamwork by mentoring them to debate and advocate on issues important to them.
