The Student Action Group aims to bring together a range of students who inform, challenge, review, and develop the current and future work of the Student Development Team at Imperial College Union, and possible wider developments in the College community. The students are considered active partners who provide feedback and consultation on areas of training, development, volunteering, and recognition, and moreover help plan and deliver aims and objectives set out by the students.
The Student Action Group is not a formal governance group, nor a steering group or a regular meeting. The Student Action Group's aim is to be an active group that brings together feedback and solutions in workshop-style on a particular topic, and acts as a sounding board. This means that students can tap in and out of committing time and effort to the Action Group, rather than needing to attend every workshop.
Participation in the Student Action Group contributes to hours for the Imperial Plus Volunteer Certificate.
The Student Action Group’s responsibilities and areas for consideration are:
- Why people engage with our work (and why not), and their motivations
- 'Certificates or not'?
- Future Workshops and training at ICU
- Specific support for postgraduate students in their personal and professional development
- The role of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in our work
- Other suggestions that come from students and the Imperial College community.
Any student is welcome. It does not matter whether you are currently involved in the Union or not. We would like to see a variety of people involved- all your voices are appreciated and valid.
Workshops and touch points
Each workshop will cover one topic and will be facilitated by a Student Development Team member. Student Development will advertise the different workshops, to be held at different sites and different times. Registration to attend will be encouraged (for catering and planning purposes). We hope students will then further want touch points with an individual Student Development staff to further develop ideas and help co-create our work.
