Yi Yang

Yi
Deputy President (Education)

Hello! I'm Yi, your Deputy President (Education) for 2022-23.

My primary responsibility is to lead the Academic Representation Network. I will collaborate closely with your Year, Department, and Faculty representatives to ensure your voices are heard and represented.

I'm an Earth Science and Engineering undergraduate and the previous Gender-Equality Officer. As the future Deputy President (Education), I will champion student representation at all levels, amplifying your voices and fostering inclusivity.

Outside of my Earth Science studies, I actively engage in fieldwork and participate in various clubs and societies.

My Goals

  • UROP Support and Opportunities: I will work to standardize UROP applications, secure extra funding opportunities, and establish a volunteer team responsible for experience sharing and guiding junior undergraduate students through the UROP application process.
  • English-as-a-Second-Language Courses: Introducing language support courses will enhance class engagement for non-native speakers, fostering inclusivity and helping students thrive in their academic pursuits.

  • Empowering Student Representatives: By providing professional training and organizing regular meetings, we will amplify student voices in decision-making processes, ensuring effective advocacy and representation for all.

  • Enhancing Research Support: I will collaborate closely with Postgraduate (PGR) representatives to strengthen PGR students' engagement with the union while also working with PGR representatives to discuss the mutual expectation documents to guarantee the quality of research support and foster a supportive environment.
