RSMU: Outreach Officer

My name is Nesha (1st year Materials) and I am running to be your Outreach Officer.

Remember that moment when you realised that geophysics/geology/materials was your one true calling in life? As Outreach Officer, it will be my goal to promote these subjects so more people can have the same eureka moment as you.

As a current Materials and President’s Ambassador, I understand the duties and responsibilities that come with representing the RSM in front of external organisations. Both roles highlight my competence in communication and my dedication to making a difference to an individual’s education.
Additionally, my 4 years’ experience of coaching Taekwondo means that I can control large crowds of children in an engaging manner and plan activities they will find challenging yet rewarding – skills that are vital for this position.
However, the main reason I would like to be Outreach Officer is that I genuinely enjoy telling people about topics that I have found fascinating – something that I discovered when helping out during school open days and at the Big Bang Science Fair where I ran my own stall.

If elected, I hope to:
1) Organise a school visit to RSM
2) Design an activites afternoon that can be delivered at local secondary schools
3) Organise taster lectures throughout the year for prospective applicants
4) Use social media to inspire budding scientists

I would also be open to any suggestions, so vote for me and together we can inspire the next generation of miners :)
