Chemical Engineering: Departmental Academic Representative

Hello!

I am Abrar, a 3rd-year running to be your DepRep.

Why? I am running because /t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶w̶i̶l̶l̶ ̶l̶o̶o̶k̶ ̶g̶o̶o̶d̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶C̶V̶/ of my desire to contribute to improve your experience. I spend most of my time /s̶e̶e̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶a̶t̶t̶e̶n̶t̶i̶o̶n̶/ making others laugh, and this is my opportunity to institutionalise this - for your betterment. Truth is, I'm the sad guy who knows all the drama in ChemEng - so I'd be the perfect candidate.

Experience? (FLEX TIME) My time as a 2nd-year rep and 1st-year horizons rep has given me skill in portraying the opinions of both enthusiastic/disgruntled students. My role in the ChemEngSoc (organising the Exxon tour) made me appreciate how Dept and ChemEngSoc coexist. My time in Model United Nations have taught me to debate controversial issues diplomatically - vital in getting changes in the dept. Lastly, being part of NigerianSoc committee (+other cultural socs) have opened my eyes to other cultures to better understands the needs of international students.

Ideas to implement: Pushing SOLE for course to be after marks/feedback released (that time you gave a nice SOLE feedback only to be rekt); creating dialogue with senior Dept staff to implement a formalised "year-in-industry" (so international students can take this route too); having tours to non oil&gas sites (pharma, chemicals etc) + many more.

I'm not going to ask you to vote for me. There are excellent candidates here - so vote with your heart!

Appendix: I'm outta words so pls feel free to speak to me.
