Hello, I’m Milia, a first year PhD student in the department of Bioengineering.
Over the past few years I have had the privilege of representing students at Imperial at all levels, whether as Bioengineering society president, CGCU president, or a representative to Union Council. These roles allowed me to gain a better appreciation of representation within the college and the Union, while exposing me to the many issues that surround student life, in terms of both welfare and academics. As a result, I have been able to bring forward concerns resulting in effective changes, and I have organised welfare and academic events.
I believe that, as postgraduate students, we are all entitled to receive adequate supervision and support from college. Thus, I would work with the facutly and departmental representatives to identify any gaps that need addressing, taking all issues forward to college wide levels, whilst also drawing upon frameworks that have been successful and sharing good practices between departments.
Likewise, I believe the Union has the potential to play a substantial role in providing its postgraduates with the complete student experience and support that it aims to provide to all its members. As your representative, I will ensure that all our opinions are heard at the highest levels and we are involved in all decision making of the Union.
As such, I’m always happy to hear your thoughts and would like to help you take your initiatives forward to create positive change across our campuses.
Think Positive – Think Milia!
