Coronavirus has significantly impacted how we operate and we are looking at the best ways to enable you to socialise and enjoy our venues and events in a safe way, staying compliant with the current government and College regulations. Check this page regularly for the most up-to-date information, such as opening hours of our bars and events planned for Welcome Week.
From Saturday, 19 September, our bar FiveSixEight is reopening every day with the following opening hours:
Bar opening hours: Mon-Sun 16:00 - 23:00, last orders at 22:30
Kitchen opening hours: Mon-Sun 16:00 - 20:30, last orders at 20:00
Please adhere to our new bar rules when visiting FiveSixEight:
- Register for track and trace prior to entering the building.
- Please sanitise your hands on entry and exit.
- Only one person from a table to go to the bar at any one time.
- Maximum allowed group size of 6.
- Please don’t move furniture or chairs between tables.
- Please don’t change tables.
- Please don’t linger at the bar after ordering and return to your table.
- Maintain 2 metres of social distance where possible at all times.
- Follow the one way system in the bar areas.
- Unfortunately under current government guidance no dancing is allowed, please remain seated.
Failure to adhere to the above will result in being asked to leave the bar. Table bookings are welcome. Please follow the usual booking process by emailing the bars at firstname.lastname@example.org 24 hours in advance.
Both Metric and the Union Bar will remain closed for the time being; however, we are using these spaces to ensure social distancing can be maintained so you will be able to eat and drink in these spaces when visiting FiveSixEight. We also have a marquee in Beit Quad as additional seating space.
We are currently planning a range of virtual and in person events to bring you the best possible social experience for Welcome 2020/21!
Events* will include Quiz Nights, a recreational sports programme, Mums & Dads mixers, Live Music and Beer & Burger Deals (in person), as well as our Virtual Welcome Fair, Online Fitness activities in partnership with Move Imperial, a virtual Union Brunch, Remote mingles, and Virtual Escape Rooms (virtual). Of course, our CSPs will also run events, so keep your eyes peeled!

Our social spaces are inclusive, safe and fun. Come have a meal, drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic), or just chill with friends in student-only venues with lots of Imperial history.
FiveSixEight is a restaurant-bar and is one of the central social areas for every student at Imperial College. With a mixture of indoor and outdoor seating, FiveSixEight is the perfect place for delicious lunch or thirst quenching drink. From our weekly Super Quiz every Tuesday, to our club nights on Wednesday and Friday, there is always something going on!
Metric is Imperial's biggest nightclub and home to the Union’s most exciting music events featuring a superb sound system, state of the art lighting and every day great value drinks prices. Wednesday and Friday nights are the staple club nights with students running great events on other nights of the week, all year long!
The Union Bar is next to FiveSixEight and is a greatly historic place. Having opened since 1957 the wood-panelled bar is a lively space used primarily for Union Club and Society events. Home to darts, real ales and the RSM Bottle, the Union Bar remains a firm favourite with undergraduates, postgraduates, alumni and staff.
ħ is the Postgraduate and staff pub and cafe brought to you by Imperial College Union and Campus Services. With offerings from international grab and go lunch options to favourite tipples in the pub, ħ is the social hub for Postgraduate students and staff on campus. ħ have a great range of Postgraduate events and nights organised for the future.
