Wednesday 23 February 2022 14:45

Nominations for the Leadership Elections are now open. We want to ensure our student leaders fully represent Imperial students, and this includes making sure International students have a voice and a platform to share their perspective.

What perspective can an international student bring Imperial College Union?

International students make up over 60% of the student body so your interests need to be represented to the College. Universities have encouraged an increasing number of international students to come to the UK over the last decade but has not always updated its systems and services to adequately support international students. This can range from housing opportunities, English language support or access to financial resources. If you’ve had personal experience in these areas, your voice is much needed to provide constructive solutions to these problems.

How do international students stay in the UK as officers?

A key feature of Students’ Unions in the UK is that students are elected to hold a full-time job in the Union with a specific portfolio. At Imperial College Union these roles are:

These students work full-time and earn a salary of £33,977. They are trustees of Imperial College Union and provide input on day-to-day decisions and strategic planning.

International students can decide to put themselves forward for these roles by standing in the Leadership Election 2023. There are two ways to arrange for your stay in the UK Through the Graduate Route for two to three years; or by applying for a Student visa (previously Tier 4) the costs of which will be reimbursed by the Union. This can be done after you have successfully been elected.
