The most important aspect of the Union is that it is an organisation for students, run by the students themselves. This section gives an introduction to the structure of the Union and how students are involved in everything the Union does.

Sabbatical Officers

The Sabbaticals are elected each year and take a year out of their studies to work full time for the Union as its most senior officers.

The Union has four Sabbatical Officers: the President and three Deputy Presidents - who are here to represent you to College and make sure that you get the best from your Union.

Volunteer officers

There are hundreds of volunteer officers who take their time out to work for the Union, be in through a club or society or on a committee. Without their hardwork, most of the opportunities wouldn’t be available to you.

Union Council

Council is the governing body of the Union and is responsible for policy making and ensuring the Union is serving its students well.

Committees

There are several Committees run by the Union to deal with specific areas of the Union, including accomodation, welfare and trading.

Graduate Students' Association

This year the Union has set up the Graduate Students' Association which aims to improve the representation of Postgraduate students within the Union and College and ensure the Postgraduate community is better catered for.

Faculty Unions

Imperial College Union is a federal union and as such each of the College’s three faculties (Engineering, Medicine and Natural Sciences) has its own union which are fully integrated into Imperial College Union.

Campus Unions

As well as mirroring the College’s faculty structure, the Union also operates two campus unions at other Imperial campuses - Silwood Parkand Wye College.

Elections

To gain any position you will need to run in elections. Depending on the position you are running for there are various criteria that need to be met and elections are held at different times of the year depending on the position.
