The 2008 Annual Varsity day, on Wednesday 27 February, is set to be the biggest yet, finishing in the traditional show down of ICU RFC and ICSM RFC in the JPR Williams Varsity Match.
This show down of colossal magnitude will see the Imperial College teams take on the Imperial College Medics in an array of sports from rugby to water polo. Spread across three different sites in London the day finishes with ICU RFC going head to head with ICSM RFC in the JPR Williams Rugby Varsity Match at Richmond Athletic Association Ground.
In addition to the JPR Wiliams Match, the two main sites for the day are Harlington Sports Ground and Ethos. Harlington will play host to rugby, football, lacrosse and hockey matches, which spectators require tickets to view, with matches starting at 12.00. After the Harlington results are announced, the crowds will be bussed over to the Richmond Ground for the grand finale. Meanwhile the yearly mix of netball, badminton and water polo will be supplemented by squash games at Ethos. Unfortunately Ethos lacks viewing areas and so matches held there are not open to spectators.
The main Varsity Match (kick-off at 1930), is named after St Mary's old boy, John Peter Rhys Williams, a former Wales full back and is the largest spectator event in the Imperial sports calendar.
