Due to a number of unforeseen developments during our building work on our new nightclub, Metric, we have taken the hard decision to delay the opening of the club until for a few weeks. We had originally hoped to open in time for the new term. However, this timeframe was always dependent on us not encountering any surprises that the building may have had to offer. Sadly an old building like this had many of them.
You can read more about the building works on the Phase 3 Blog and in a post by our Deputy President (Finance & Services) Ravi Pall on his Blog. But essentially the process of removing the pillar in the center of the club has been the main problem. The pillar has now gone, but the time we lost is irrecoverable without sacrificing quality.
The important thing is that the late opening of Metric will not affect our Welcome Week plans! We will still be holding a superb week of welcome events for our new students, in fact they are unchanged. We will also be ramping up for the launch of Metric with more information coming soon.
Our new bar FiveSixEight will be opening on time as will the The Union Bar, so the Union will still be the place to be during Welcome Week and the first few weeks of term.
