About Clubs & Societies

osc iraqi

So, you're at Imperial, one of the premier academic institutions in the country, and you’re trying to figure out what to do with all the time you’re going to have on your hands. You could spend it in lectures, listening to someone with a beard droning on about how exciting his algebra is, or you could spend it having fun. This is where clubs and societies come in.
The Union facilitates almost 300 student Clubs & Societies with more than 8,000 members, we’re sure to have something on offer that you want to do. Of course, if we don’t have the right club, then we’ll help you start one. As a member of the Union you may join any Union club or society. There are no restrictions on who may join a particular club or how many clubs you may join (though you are likely to have to pay a membership fee for most clubs).
All clubs are run by elected students who represent the members interests. You will have a great say in the direction the club takes, the activity it takes part in and your level of involvement. For this reason, nearly every club will provide some form of activity to suit members at every possible level.
Whilst the Union will try to engage, enable and encourage student activity, your experience is ultimately up to you. Take as little or as much as you like. Of course everyone is at Imperial to learn (and it’s much less fun playing football when your tutor is chasing after you about your coursework), but how you spend your social time defines you as a person. The easiest way to make friends is to have something in common, whether that’s musical taste, sharing a faith, a mutual love of an art form, or just a way of life.
Imperial College Union clubs and societies are separated into groups based upon common themes and the A to Z list and category links on the right hand side of this page should help you decide which you’re interested in joining.
Remember , whatever happens , however much or little you choose to do , the most important thing is to have fun!
