String Ensemble
String Ensemble is now entering its fourth riotously successful year as a society. We perform concerts every term at various churches in the local area as well taking part in events such as lunch time busking and the finale concert during Artsfest. Last year, we continued to broaden our repertoire with some string classics by Elgar and Vaughan Williams as well as more modern pieces. We also perform concertos regularly featuring talented musicians from within Imperial.
But that’s not where it ends. Our reputation for wild partying is posing a threat to established college music groups with our many social events. After brilliantly successful tours in previous years we’re heading off again in September for more barndancing and countryside wandering.
Plans for 2008/09 include student concertos and performances from our bass section. As the College’s only small ensemble for string players we offer a very different experience to the symphony orchestras, both socially and in terms of repertoire. We rehearse on Friday evenings in the Great Hall.
