Student Respect
Years of New Labour government have brought us privatisation and war. It has lead us against our wishes into ongoing conflict in the Middle East, attacking Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine and Lebanon in what is now being called “the long war” and the killing hundreds of thousands of civilians. It is also responsible for the demolition of council housing in London and the closure of schools and hospitals. Yet they are happy to spend money on war and nuclear weapons. The racist agendas of the BNP (British National Party) are gaining popularity as people look for a scapegoat for the problems they are facing.
Respect doesn’t think that a Conservative or Lib Dem government will be any better! That’s why we provide a left wing alternative to New labour. We were founded on the anti-war movement that led to the largest demonstrations ever seen in Britain. The Imperial Student Respect society holds meetings with speakers and film showings on issues such as climate change, racism and islamophobia. We are also involved in campaigns on campus and attend outside events such as NUS conference.
