Political Philosophy
The Political Philosophy Society is one of the most active and buzzing societies on campus. It is the source at Imperial for nurturing dialogue and discussion on all the current political, philosophical, cultural or ideological issues.
External speakers are invited to come and debate or lecture on a variety of topics. Last year saw us hold a 'Conflict Case Study Week' where we conducted academic studies on live international conflicts and a 'Genocide Awareness Week' where international leaders in Genocide participated. These made headlines in the Imperial media, as well as featuring in the international media and getting recognition from prominent think-tanks in Britain.
We also hold weekly seminars discussing rational and abstract ideas in politics and philosophy. We are looking to expand into discussion of current affairs annews, and into dissecting articles and literature in the manner of a critical reading group. These seminars are where students participating provide the discussion, and are led by academics, guest speakers or other students.
So in short, we seek to engage students, stimulate new thinking and enhance understanding. As science students ourselves, we know what it’s like to drown in molecules and formulae and sometimes you just want to think about the world! That is what this award-winning society is for.
