Do you enjoy a sneaky sing in the shower? Got a trumpet lying around somewhere? Don't keep it to yourself - join ICSM Music Society! Comprising orchestra, jazz band, choir, chamber choir and bands, we have something for you, no matter what musical taste, ability or background you have.
Termtime weekly rehearsals combined with socials and regular high standard concerts form the basis of a very welcoming environment and a great place to meet new people. We also have spaces for personal practice at Charing Cross and St. Mary's Hospitals if that's something you'd like.
This year will see the return of the hugely popular society-wide weekend away at the end of October, complete with fancy dress and two great nights out. Next summer our resident tour guide will be taking us on tour to Lithuania, featuring a mixture of concerts, days out sight-seeing, and partying in Vilnius. Definitely not to be missed!
Besides the jolly social scene we put on eight very high quality concerts a year — over the next twelve months there will even be the opportunity to perform in the Royal Albert Hall. We also have a scholarship scheme for one fresher every year that’s now in its third year.
We will be holding a MusicSoc Freshers Mingle on Thursday 6th October in South Kensington. Also, feel free to e-mail me, Lydia, the chairman of the society with any questions.
Orchestra, is not only the most fun orchestra at Imperial (probably the world), with plenty of socials, weekends away, and post-rehearsal drinkies; we also find time to play some top notch music ranging from Mozart to John Williams. We rehearse Tuesday evenings from 7pm in the Reynolds Music Room.
Choir rehearses on Monday evenings from 7.30pm in the Drewe Lecture Theatre.. We sing a wide variety of music ranging from well-loved classical pieces (Mozart et. al) to Broadway favourites. There’s no need to audition and we welcome singers of all abilities with plenty of solo opportunities for the more confident musicians!
The chamber choir is our smaller choir and is auditioned (but please don’t let this put you off giving it a try!) It is a four part choir and performs a wide range of music. There are plans afoot, including Bohemian Rhapsody, Ave Verum and possibly even some Disney Classics. We rehearse before main choir at 6.30pm.
Jazz Band meets every Sunday evening, from 7.30pm in the Reynolds Music Room. This, of course, allows easy access to the bar for post- (or even pre- and during-) rehearsal drinks! Having only been formed in January 2009 we have since played lots of gigs in a very short space of time, and hope to be even bigger and better this year.
Looking to play in a band? Need a place to practice? Music Society has a ‘Music Room’ in the basement of the Reynolds with an installed PA system, microphones, full drum kit, bass amp and pianos (upright and electric). |
Now in its third year, MusicSoc is running the 'ICSM Music Society Scholarship' for one fresher every year. The scholarship will give you free music lessons for the first three years of university and will be awarded not only to the best musician, but also someone who has really got involved with the society.
On Thursday 6th October, it is time again for the infamous 'MusicSoc Freshers' Mingle' on the South Kensington campus. It's a great opportunity to meet lots of the new faces to meet current society members on a relaxed evening after the chaos of Freshers' Week.
Highlight of the term, without a doubt. It will be Fri 28th - Sun 30th October so keep that weekend free!
Choir to sing at Royal Albert Hall ICSM Choir are singing, for the third year in a row, in Imperial's Commemoration Day, alongside IC Choir in the Royal Albert Hall, one of the most spectacular concert venues in London. The whole medical school has the day off, so there is no reason not to get involved! |
