President | It is the president's duty to oversee all the activities of the society. He or she must ensure that meetings occur regularly. In addition (s)he will work with the Deputy President, Secretary and Chair of Internal Debates to organise the Imperial College IV, external speaker events and the motions for weekly meetings respectively. (S)he will handle intra-society communications including a weekly email and will field the bulk of communication with external parties. (S)he will be expected to handle and/or delegate any unforseen tasks of the society. |
Deputy President and Imperial IV Convener | Generally it is the duty of the Deputy President to oversee all the activities of the society with the President. It is expected that the President and Deputy President will discuss all decisions relating to the society. It is the Deputy President's duty to inform the President when (s)he is about to do something foolish! Specifically it is the duty of the Deputy President to lead the organisation of the Imperial IV. This is an extremely varied task with many different aspects to consider, including seeking sponsorship and financial planning, event planning and logistical management of registration and the organisation of the day. This is the most time-consuming and stressful activity of the society but also the most rewarding. If you're considering standing for this position you would be well advised to discuss the role with Shilpa. |
Treasurer | The Treasurer handles the finances of the society. This will involve close cooperation with the President throughout the year and with the Deputy President at the time of the Imperial IV. The Treasurer should keep a constant eye on the finances of the society, alerting other committee members to potential problems. In addition (s)he will be expected to pay in funds and process reimbursement claims and membership forms. |
Secretary and External Speaker Events Organiser | The Secretary should maintain the paperwork of the society. In addition, the holder of this post will lead the organisation of all events in which external speakers give public debates at Imperial (such as the recent monarchy debate). (S)he is expected to lead these events in cooperation with the Social Events Organiser and the Publicity Officer. |
Chair of Internal Debates | The holder of this post will work in conjunction with the President to organise the training and set the motion for each weekly meeting. In addition, (s)he will be expected to formulate a long-term plan for developing the skills of Imperial debaters. |
Publicity Officer | The Publicity Officer will handle all the publicity needs of the society. Specifically, this will involve organising our stall at the Freshers' Fayre, publicising the society generally and publicising events which include external speakers. This role combines the fun imaginative work of developing publicity campaigns and the donkey-work of putting up lots of posters. |
Social Events Organiser | The Social Events Organiser will be expected to organise a Christmas and end-of-the-year social for the society. In addition (s)he will work with the Secretary and the Deputy President to organise the social aspects of the external speaker events and the Imperial IV respectively. |
