Debating
IC Debating is the best place for those who want to take their school debating to the next level, those who want to learn to speak with more clarity or confidence, or just those who enjoy argument for its own sake.
Our ethos is to support speakers at all levels; those who have never seen a debate before will be shown the ropes by our supportive and friendly members, whilst those looking to stretch themselves, or compete at a national or international level will receive top tier coaching from some of the UK's best speakers and judges.
Imperial College is an emerging presence on the debating scene. We are producing more and more finalists, sending more judges to competitions and have competed at the international level. We are looking to expand even further this year: attending competitions, hosting events and giving our speakers an ever better grounding in argumentation, style and persuasion. Just as importantly, we want speakers who'll make our society even more fun and dynamic; from working their way up and helping with coaching and judging through to holding their own in the five pint debates (you drink five pints in 15 minutes, then offer as close to an argument as you can. Points are given for being witty, or at least coherent). Even those who aren't up for that, we have a strong social background and are always on the lookout for new ways to make our society more friendly and fun.
