Governance

Union Council

Imperial College Union (ICU) is a large and complex organisation of 15,000 members, 5 Sabbaticals Officers, 28 full-time and up to 250 part time staff, 300 clubs and societies, 9 campuses, around 1,000 elected officers (10% of all full-time students at the College) and a turnover of £3,500,000 per year.

It needs to comply with considerable government and College-inspired regulation and of course ensure that it is a fully democratic organisation serving the student body. Consequently the structure and rules governing the Union are complex, but not so difficult that you can't understand what parts you need to know.

All students at Imperial College are automatically members of the Union, information about opting out of membership of the Union can be found online.

Students from other Further and Higher Education Institutions, as well as Imperial College staff and former students are also entitled to become members of Imperial College Union, information is available online.
