Pugwash
ICU Student Pugwash brings together people concerned with the ethical and social responsibilities of science and technology.
Pugwash was inspired by the Russell-Einstein Manifesto, which was written during the Cold War when nuclear war was a distinct possibility. The Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs won the 1995 Nobel Peace Prize “for their efforts to diminish the part played by nuclear arms [and] ... to eliminate such arms”. We’ll visit the British Pugwash Headquarters, watch movies such as An Inconvenient Truth, run a huge Ethical Careers Exhibition, work on IC ethical policy and have regular bar nights!
