About MusicSoc

Despite playing absolutely no part in the musical careers of literally hundreds of worthy musicians (such as Beethoven, Frank Sinatra and Britney Spears), the ICSM Music Society constantly produces top notch performers and entertainers. Current members, under almost no duress at all, describe Music Society as “the best thing ever; even better than sliced bread, because frankly sliced bread isn’t that amazing”.

The orchestra and main choir form the backbone of the society, with weekly rehearsals culminating in high standard concerts at various local churches, prisons, mental institutions and oil rigs. (Well, to be honest, it’s mostly churches.) In addition, there are various smaller ensembles, such as the high-quality Chamber Choir and our fledgling Big Band. There is also plenty of opportunity to form your own group if we haven’t yet got something to cater for your particular taste in death metal or ancient Japanese reed flute music. Musicians (both medics and non-medics) of all standards, ages and species are welcome and, with the exception of the chamber choir, there is no need to audition. Our calendar contains a wide variety of events such as our Carol Service and infamous rehearsal weekends away, not to mention plenty of opportunities to get tipsy for no reason at all. Another highlight is the Music Society tour, which occurs every other year. The most recent trip was a fun-filled week in beautiful Austria, visiting Salzburg and Vienna, whilst previous tours have taken in the USA (Boston, Washington & New York), Italy and Barcelona.
