Gliding

rcc glidingImperial College Gliding Club is the oldest, one of the largest, and bluntly, the best university gliding club. We fly gliders - lightweight, engineless aircraft capable of flying hundreds of miles, at many thousand feet.

Being impoverished students, you probably don't think that you'll ever be able to afford to learn how to fly; well, we at the club are also impoverished students and, thankfully, a flight can cost as little as £10 off the winch. Our club flies at Lasham, Europe's largest gliding airfield, with our fleet of 3 high performance gliders.

As a student pilot, you'll receive instruction in our two seat trainer from experienced gliding instructors. You'll also have access to the Lasham fleet of gliders. As you progress, you'll move onto our high performance single seat gliders, learning how to fly cross country and use rising air (lift) to extend your flights.

Our club participates in competitions and events, giving even novice pilots the opportunity to fly cross-country with experienced co-pilots. The club makes frequent trips, with our annual trip to Edinburgh's gliding site over New Year and has gone on Summer tours to Finland and Slovenia. In addition, we will also be throwing club socials every now and then - be they bar nights, or our recent 80th anniversary.

Gliding is a fantastic way to fly - come for a trial flight to see for yourself. Look out for us at the Freshers' Fair (you won't miss us, we will be next to the glider!).
