Alternative Music
What is alternative music? Anything you want! If you love music and the discovery of exciting new bands then we are the society for you. All music and genres are welcome here from indie, electronic, hip hop, metal or folk, to the weird, obscure, danceable, or frankly sometimes unlistenable regions in between. Meet other people passionate about music: if you love a band or artist, chances are you’ll find people here who love them too. Bored of the same old night clubs? We have a huge wealth of knowledge about the London music scene between us: the latest up and coming bands (for those “I saw them first!” moments), the coolest obscure gig and club venues (at bargain prices), little instrument shops and the best record stores to buy your CDs or Vinyl. Know about somewhere that we don’t? Let us know! We are always looking for new bands and places.
As well as our regular nights out around the city we host our own events in Imperial’s Metric Club, and a weekly pub meet for members to relax and chat after lectures. In addition to all this we have our music swapping event Mixtape Madness- a fantastic opportunity to sample the huge variety of music our different members listen to, and to impose your own tastes on other people. We also have our badge making sessions and our own AMS music zine for you to submit entries to.
And of course, we’re just all completely fantastic people. Don’t worry about being “alternative enough” - we welcome anyone with enthusiasm for music and an open mind. So come along and meet us!
