Thursday 18 Jun 2009

Exhibitionmusicdayhome

In the midst of exams and Summer Ball excitement, it’s easy to miss another big event which is happening soon, at and around Imperial!

This Sunday 21st June, all the organisations up and down Exhibition Road will be opening their doors for the annual Exhibition Road Music Day. This is a midsummer festival of live music, workshops and performances all centred on or around Exhibition Road – and all for FREE!

Institutions such as the V&A, the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum, Institut Francais, the Ismaili Centre, the Goethe Institute and, of course, Imperial College, will all be taking part. You can take advantage of the pedestrianised Exhibition Road and take part in a huge range of activities, from free language classes, to music performances to workshops on making musical instruments!

At Imperial, there will be more activities being run by Clubs and Societies than ever before. The Drama Society will be staging a performance of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night on Queen’s Lawn; Musical Theatre Society, String Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Classical Guitar and The Techtonics will all be performing in the Tanaka Foyer. The Percussion Club will also be holding a workshop with the professional trash percussion group ‘Weapons of Sound’ in the Science Museum. There will be an open Capoeira workshop in the Tanaka Foyer as well a guest performance from ‘The Fabulous Boogie Boys’ on Upper Dalby Court.

For more information and a full programme of events, go to http://www.exhibitionroadmusicday.org/ or pick up a leaflet from the Union Reception.

Come and get involved – it’s a wonderful way to chill out, do something fun, and best of all, it’s free!
