As a student it is often tempting to get involved in lots of activities and spread yourself quite thin. While these activities often enhance your experiance as a student
it is important to make sure you budget your finances correctly and ensure the important things get paid first.

Below are some tips to ensure you can budget your finances properly:

  • Keep a record of all income and expenses each month write down your outgoings and how much you expect to spend that month include food and rent and alos leave a small amount for unexpected costs.
  • As a student a lot of your income will come in one lump sum, it is important to keep control of this by allocating money for the important stuff into a seperate account for example rent and bills.
  • Try to live cheaply i.e. look for student discounts and cheap deals at supermarkets or leisure activities this will help you to stretch your money further.
  • Try to cook for yourself, there are some great ways of stretching your money by cooking for yourself and not getting take aways or ready meals a bag of jacket potatoes can last a long time!
  • Always keep tabs on your spending check your bank ballance regularly and ensure you keep up to date on repayments, this will give you a better idea on what you have to spend on leisure activities.
  • Try to avoiud any nasty shocks by being organised and getting your council tax exemption sorted out and being organised with utility bills many student chosse to have a seperate account to pay these out of that all housemates can pay into.
