Living away from home with people of the same age who are out to have fun may prompt questioning of one’s sexuality. This is not always an easy process to deal with by yourself, as there are often many social and cultural implications to overcome. There are several sources of help for exactly such situations.

The London Lesbian & Gay Switchboard offers a listening service and provides information on a host of issues important to homosexuals.

Imperial College Union has a very active LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) Society, called Imperial Queers (or IQ for short). IQ provides the opportunity for LGBT students to meet and socialise within a friendly, safe environment, as well as offering support through difficult times such as coming out to your friends and family. They also provide information on a range of support services and resources outside of the College.

The Counselling Service is also useful if you encounter emotional difficulties in coming to terms with your sexuality. Also, if you feel you are being disadvantaged because of your sexuality talk to the Deputy President (Welfare)or drop into the Advice Centre.
