What is the Graduate Students' Association (GSA)?

Whether you are studying for a Masters, PhD or MD(Res), you are automatically a member of the Graduate Students' Association (GSA). The GSA is a branch of Imperial College’s Student Union (ICU). Both the ICU and the GSA are student run and aim to improve the education and welfare of Imperial's students.

The GSA specifically represents postgraduates. The GSA Executive Committee coordinates GSA activities. The GSA Exec is chaired by the GSA President and includes the Academic and Welfare Officers each of whom represents one of the following areas: Medicine, Engineering, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Business and Humanities.

Each Academic and Welfare Officer chairs an Academic and Welfare Committee, where they meet with Departmental Representatives within their area. There are many roles in the GSA, to find out more about them check out the GSA Elections info page.

Altogether, the GSA is here to help you get the most out of your time at Imperial. We aim to make your experience enjoyable by co-ordinating social events, turning your suggestions for improvement into reality and when things go wrong, we aim to support you, by giving you guidance, advice and a stronger voice related to any academic or welfare issues.

REPRESENTATION

If you want to raise an academic or welfare issue, discuss a concern or ask a question- no matter what it is- we are here for you. If they don’t respond to you within a week or if it is very urgent please contact the GSA President.

GRADUATE SCHOOL

We work closely with the newly-merged Graduate school to enhance the postgrad experience at Imperial and our executive committee members meet regularly with staff. Please contact us if you have comments or suggestions on transferable skills courses.
