Stop The War

Stop the War Society

More than five years since US/UK-led invasion, the devastation of Iraq continues. With up to a million innocent Iraqis dead and a further four million displaced, the social and economic infrastructure of the country is in ruins. Yet the occupation continues.

Meanwhile we in the UK have experienced arrant curtailing of our civil liberties and witnessed a dramatic rise in racist attacks directed at the Muslim community.

IC StW society aims to educate Imperial's student body through debate, film, music and cultural events: not only about the occupation of Iraq but also of Afghanistan, Palestine and the increasingly threatening rhetoric directed towards Iran.

We are an active campaigning society and have been involved in building numerous national demonstrations against war and racism. Though we are a fully independent organisation and at liberty to pursue our own agenda, we often work closely with the national Stop the War Coalition, which has played a central role in building a truly vibrant mass anti-war movement (in 2003, it led the largest peaceful demonstration this country has ever seen).

This year we hope to continue educating while strengthening our links with other campaigning/political societies at IC and other universities so that we may effectively oppose these abhorrent wars and prevent any repeat, whether it be in Iran or elsewhere.
