ICURFC Smash Middlesex
There is no doubt that the 2008 season will be an exciting time for ICURFC. With both the first and second team gaining promotion and the introduction of two new teams, the only way is up.
ICURFC run four competitive teams in the BUSA leagues and a Saturday side playing in the London divisions. As a club we can cater for those of all abilities, whether you have aspirations to play at a high level or you’re more interested in the social side.
After several years at the top of their league, ICURFC 1st xv finally gained promotion to the Southern Premiership. This will see the side competing with teams from all over the country, as far out as Cardiff and Oxford University. The 2nd xv have also successfully gained promotion.
The club is fortunate to be coached by Richard Birkett from London Wasps and Brimah Kebbie, a Widnes league star in his day. We train as a club on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings, with the 1st team having additional midweek sessions. Most fixtures are played on a Wednesday afternoon, which the university leaves free for sport.
Like any good rugby club the social side is very important. Every Wednesday sees the congregation of all four teams in the union for post match drinks and fines dolled out at the captain’s discretion. Highlights of the year include the Christmas and Annual Dinners as well as the annual Varsity match against the Medics in front of 1500 people at Richmond Rugby Club. The club tours a different country every other year. This summer, we’re off to Argentina. Past tours include Canada, NZ and Barbados.
