Netball (Wye)

Wye Netball Wye Netball

The netball team was started up in 2004 by the then Freshers. We entered a Kent league that year playing other colleges as far away as Orpington and Bromley. Captained by Elly Oswald and Rhian Salmon, we ended up coming 4th in the league for two years and had great times at the tournaments in the third term which we went to with the football and basketball teams. The team already has some talented players but welcomes all new club members to the practices, try-outs and matches. Charlie Turner takes over as captain this year and the team has high hopes for success in both their league and friendly matches over the next three terms. More university matches and coaching sessions will be arranged this year if the club gains more members.
The team has home or away matches nearly every Wednesday afternoon during term time and has coaching sessions at the same time whenever there isn't a game. It has been hard this year to fit in extra practices due to the full timetables everyone has but the team does try to get in extra shooting and skills practice on Monday and Tuesday evenings between 5 and 6pm in the sports hall. The times depend on everyone’s lecture timetables. The team is also a very social group that organises union events and has team nights out! The awards dinner last year was held jointly with the football team and was a great success.
The team charges £15 membership and that covers kit and transport to all away games.
